Keeping Guelph Safe ... Together.

Values, Influences and Peers (V.I.P.)

Values, Influences and Peers (Grades 6, 7, 8)

Units of study provide opportunities for students to become aware of some of the basic values of Canadian society, specifically the set of values considered essential to the well being of the individual and the well being of socity.

VIP

Embraced by the Guelph Police Services in 1986, this program is aimed specifically at grade 6 students and seeks to assist teachers with helping students:
• Make informed choices
• Lean their rights and responsibilities
• Build self esteem

VIP focuses on 11 topics related to values, influences, and peers. It pays special attention to authority figures, the law, drug awareness, bullying/cyber bullying and internet safety.

The officer meets with every grade 6 class in the city four times, presenting lessons in a fun and relaxed manner.

VIP Plus

VIP Plus was implemented in the spring of 2008 in response to a demand for an expanded program that continues to educate students through grades 7 and 8. This program models the VIP program but enhances the content and lesson plans to an age appropriate level.
