Riding the Bus
• Do not play in the street while waiting for the bus. When you are waiting for the bus, be aware that the morning is one of the busiest times on your neighbourhood's streets because many people are driving their kids to school or commuting to work.
• Wait for the bus to stop before approaching it from the curb. If you were to slip and fall before the bus stops, the driver may not see you and you could get hurt.
• Line up facing the bus, not along side it. This way, everyone waiting for the bus is a safe distance from the curb, and can be seen by the bus driver.
• Use the handrail to enter and exit the bus. Bus stairs are steep, and using the handrail can help prevent injury when you get on and off the bus.
• Do not move around on the bus. The bus driver's job is to safely take students to and from school, and by moving around or being noisy you are distracting the driver and taking their attention away from the road. Remember, riding on a school bus is a privilege, not a right.
• After getting off the bus, wait for the bus driver to signal you to cross the street. Walk away from the front of the bus so the driver can see you. If you drop something, leave it and get an adult to pick it up once it is safe to do so. A ruined back pack or school supply can be replaced, you can't!
