1. Assault-Arrest

On March 18th, 2010 at 12:16 am, Guelph Police were on patrol on Wyndham Street North Guelph when they came upon a fight between two males. The officers broke up the fight and found that a 21 year old male from Bradford was punched in the mouth and one of his teeth were knocked out. The two males were not known to each other.

Kevin GOSS 25 years of Orangeville was charged with Assault cause Bodily Harm and will appear in court in May.

2. Off Duty Officer Spots Impaired Driver-Arrest

On March 17th , 2010 at approximately 10:55 PM, an off duty Guelph Police officer was on his way into work when he observed a vehicle on Gordon Street South Guelph that was weaving back and forth in front of him. The officer called the Guelph Police and continued to follow the vehicle until an officer could attend. During this time the vehicle drove onto the front yard of a residence on Sweeney Drive where it struck a rock and large tree. The vehicle then left the scene and eventually got stuck in a vacant lot on Zaduk Place Guelph. The officer went to the driver's side of the vehicle and placed him under arrest for Impaired Driving and held him until an on-duty officer arrived.

Brett TORRENS 22 years of Erin was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 and will appear in court in May.

3. Traffic Stop Leads to Alcohol Suspension for Unauthorized Cabbie

On March 18th, 2010 at 1:29 am a Guelph Police Traffic Officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Gordon Street South, Guelph. The officer spoke to the driver and noticed the odour of alcohol on his breath and a roadside screening device was used. The driver registered a "warn" and received a 3 day Administrative Driver's License Suspension.

During conversation with the passengers in the vehicle, it was discovered that they did not know the driver and that they had been approached in downtown Guelph and offered transportation "anywhere in Guelph" for a cash fee. The passengers paid the driver the requested fee and were being driven to their destination when stopped by police. The driver was not the holder of a Taxicab License.

Providers of public transportation for compensation in the City of Guelph are required to hold a license issued by the Guelph Police Services Board on behalf of the City of Guelph.

In addition to the 3 Day license suspension, a 28 year old London man faces charges of Speeding ($95.00 fine) and Pick up Passenger for Compensation without Authority ($390.00 fine).
