Restraining orders are granted at Ontario Court of Justice- Family, 74 Woolwich Street. They are granted for spouses or common law partners (living together for uninterrupted time of three years and if there is a child- there is no time limit).
Peace bonds (sec 810) and private complaints (i.e. sec. 266) are granted by way of application. Application forms are available at 36 Wyndham Street. Applications are accepted at the front office of the court house at 36 Wyndham Street on Mondays, except Holiday Mondays, between the hours of 2:00pm and 3:30pm. Persons seeking a Peace Bond or Private Complaint must be prepared to spend the time in the afternoon as the justice of the peace usually reviews the applications between hearings or bail assists. Also on rare occasion, Monday's application review could be cancelled if the courts for the Justice Peace are too heavy.
The applicant must provide the address of the person they wish to enter into a peace bond or wish to privately charge as a summons would have to be served to the accused.
A peace bond and private complaint application if granted could take up to three months or so before completed.
If the complainant has an issue with a person who has mental health issues we refer them to Mary Hanlon at the Trellis Mental Health and Developmental Services at: 147 Delhi Street, Guelph, Ontario Telephone (519) 821-2060. The Guelph Police Service does not offer bicycle licenses anymore. Our best advice is to take photographs of your bike, record the serial number, and keep this together with your receipt.
Helmets can save your life, but only if worn properly. Wear one that fits properly. In Ontario, all cyclists under the age of 18 must wear a helmet .
Use a headlamp and tail light when cycling between dusk and dawn. You can be fined if you do not have lights on your bicycle. It is illegal to ride without a bell or horn on your bicycle.
No. Please contact the Desk Supervisor at 519-824-1212 Ext. 315. This office handles non-criminal fingerprinting only.
Fingerprint checks: Your fingerprints are compared with all the fingerprint files held within the RCMP data banks to determine if a criminal record exists. A certificate is then issued from the RCMP indicating the results of the search. Your fingerprint sheet will then be destroyed.
The RCMP only carries fingerprints of "convicted" criminals on their files.
Local Police Record check:
Your name and date of birth (only) are queried on the national information system "CPIC".
The local police files are also checked for any negative contact you may have had with the police.
We do not include traffic violations (Provincial Offences Act).
The agency you are dealing with will specify which type of record check they require.
Electronic fingerprints are taken on a scanner and are sent electronically to the RCMP while you wait. You will receive the RCMP results within a couple of weeks. RCMP fees (if required) are paid to the fingerprinting agency along with their service fee.
Paper fingerprints, once completed (5-10 minutes to take one set), are given back to the applicant and the applicant is responsible for sending the fingerprints to RCMP etc., along with the required fees. You will receive the RCMP results within a couple of months.
