Keeping Guelph Safe ... Together.

Downtown Liaison

Reporting to the Inspector of Neighbourhood Services, the Downtown Liaison's overriding purpose is to increase community safety and security in relation to the downtown core with the objective of highly visible police presence. This officer is the contact point for both the community and police in relation to the downtown area. The officer is responsible for coordinating law enforcement as well as encouraging and supporting community members to deal more effectively with issues and conflicts.

The Downtown liaison often performs foot patrols of the downtown area of the City of Guelph, and responds to calls, as dispatched. This officer facilitates communication and relationships between citizens groups, business owners, employees, downtown merchants, and consumers. The officer also works in conjunction with the GPS Downtown Tactical Unit and Bicycle Unit to identify and resolve downtown issues.

Another duty of the Downtown Liaison Officer is to attend a wide range of public and special group meetings, and to work with the community, merchants, and Downtown Board of Management to address issues and conflicts in the central business core. This officer advocates, coordinates, and facilitiates an integrated approach to planning and implementing projects for ongoing issues in the downtown area.
