POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Financial Analyst
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Manager, Finance
POSITION SUMMARY:
To participate in the development, monitoring and analysis of departmental and organizational budgets and other internal financial processes.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Budget Process:
Assist Finance Manager with the preparation of the Annual Operating and Capital Budgets. Assist units with the preparation of the Police budget. Assist departments with the completion of variance reports and other interim financial reports. Assist Finance Manager with the monitoring of and reporting on various police capital projects. Develop and enhance budget reporting capabilities, including existing budget models. Suggest improvements to the Police budgeting and variance reporting process. Assist with year end accounting entries and preparation of financial statements. Participate in the development of financial policies and procedures

Reporting:
Prepare reports for the Finance Manager, Senior Management Team and Police Services Board, as required. Prepare funding summaries for departmental spending.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ø University degree in a Finance or Business Related area AND
Ø Intermediate standing in a professional accounting designation program (CA, CMA, CGA) OR
Ø Completion of a professional accounting designation with a community college diploma or university degree in a related area
Ø Minimum 3 years experience in a related position, public sector experience preferred
Ø Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ø Strong analytical interpersonal and time management skills
Ø Proficient in the use of office technology, including Microsoft Office software. JD Edwards experience is an asset
Ø Ability to work independently and able to prioritize and meet inflexible deadlines
