Community Volunteer Patrol (CVP) |
|
|
The community volunteer patrol is a joint effort between the Guelph Police Service, Guelph Neighborhood Watch and Community Members like you. The C.V.P. was created on the notion that community safety and security are not the sole responsibility of the police but rather a shared responsibility between the Police and Public. This program involves teams of Community Volunteers under the direct supervision of the C.V.P. Coordinators and the Guelph Police Service. Trained Volunteers patrol a given area of the city to act as the eyes and ears of the Guelph Police Service. Any questionable occurrence is recorded and reported via cellular communications, directly to an "on duty" officer or to dispatch. It is the intention of the organizers that this active joint effort in crime prevention will enhance and improve the quality of life in Guelph. |
|
ObjectivesThere are three main objectives set out by the community volunteer patrol. The primary objective is to help reduce crime through deterrence and active crime prevention. Second, if an incident does occur, the C.V.P. will assist the Guelph Police Service by providing the responding officer with an information advantage that can be continually updated. |

Sounds like the Community Volunteer Patrol puts volunteers in danger.
The design of the Community Volunteer Patrol was set down to treat safety of the volunteers as priority #1.
During training, volunteers are thoroughly instructed on what to do and what not to do. Every volunteer abides by strict Rules of Conduct that are set to ensure the safety and security of the volunteers and of the program.
1. Teams will NEVER go out on patrol with less than two people in the vehicle.
2. While on patrol, the volunteers will NEVER leave that vehicle.
3. The Community Volunteer Patrol will NEVER approach any incident, accident, suspect, or occurrence, unless directed to do so by Police
4. The Community Volunteer Patrol will act strictly as the EYES and EARS of the Guelph Police Service
Volunteers are always needed. If you wish to volunteer you can pick up an application at the Guelph Police Service, 15 Wyndham Street S. or call the Community Volunteer Patrol office and we will be happy to ensure that you receive one.
Since funding for volunteer organizations such as this is scarce, we are always in need of donations. If you or your company wish to contribute financially. Please contact the C.V.P. Office and we would be happy to meet with you personally.
