1. 2012 Guelph Police Law Enforcement Torch Run
Please plan to join the Guelph Police Service, several various Law Enforcement agencies and our local Special Olympian Athletes for this great cause!
Members of the Guelph Police Service and their colleagues from other law enforcement agencies will once again carry the flame of hope torch in recognition of Special Olympics on Wednesday June 6th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
This year's run will start off at the Canadian Tire Store located on Woodlawn Road, Guelph. The runners will meet up with local Special Olympians at the River Run Center where they will run to the Cooperators Building for a cheque presentation.
The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run is a community-based, province-wide event that raises money and awareness of the Special Olympics movement in Ontario. The funds from the run go into a program that directly supports athletes with intellectual disabilities, as well as Special Olympics' programs.
The Ontario Special Olympics raises over 95% of its funds from personal donations, sponsorships, corporate contributions and events like the Torch Run, which accounts for a substantial amount of all its revenue.
Thank you for your ongoing support for this worthwhile charity!!!

3. Canada Road Safety Week-Update
The Guelph Police are continuing their enforcement efforts as Canada Road Safety week continues through to midnight on Monday May 21st. To date, over 150 motorists have been charged with a variety of offences. Some of these include driving while using a handheld device, failing to stop for red light, failing to wear a seatbelt, careless driving, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, and speeding. Two motorists have been charged with impaired driving.
The Guelph Police are reminding the motoring public to keep safety in the forefront as they drive through city streets. Driver distraction is defining itself as being a major cause of collisions.
Officers will be conducting RIDE programs at random locations throughout the City over the long weekend.
The Guelph Police Service wishes everyone a safe May 24th long weekend.
